Half of Dr.Øne is concrete. Musique concrète began when people cut, slowed, reversed and looped recorded sound until it stopped being a recording and became an instrument. Dr.Øne is the other half: four voices that hold a chord forever, then rotate or instantly transpose to take you somewhere fresh. Play it by hand, with a hardware controller or the mouse, and don’t be surprised when it’s three hours later.
Hold a chord. Nudge a pitch, hit ROTATE, and walk away. When you come back the drone has gone somewhere you didn’t plan, and you’ll want to follow it. Nobody sets out to spend an evening on one patch. It just happens.
Four voices, each with its own wave, octave and send, rotating by intervals that visit every note. There are no wrong moves, only places you haven’t been yet.
The tape return is the old studio toolkit: FREEZE lifts a slice of tape into a loop, HALF drops the tape to half speed, REVERSE walks the heads backwards, and WEAR and SATURATE rough up the oxide.
Slow harmonies that bloom out of nothing but held notes, delay and spring washing through them, drifting a little out of tune the way beautiful things do.
Make a bed for a film, a pad for a set, an hour of ambient for no reason at all. Dr.Øne asks nothing of you but your attention, and it gives hours back as music.
