Every compressor hears a mix bottom-heavy, so the bass does most of the gain reduction and everything else rides on the pumping — standard practice fights that by high-passing the sidechain. HEAVY does the opposite: the detector is RIAA-weighted, so it leans into the low end instead of ignoring it, and six classic vari-mu models sit behind one MODEL knob so you can feel exactly how different that makes things.
