UFO’s (or UAP’s) left this on my doorstep a couple of days ago without an instruction manual or any hieroglyphs to decode it, so like a typical predictable human being, I started using it straight away and it’s very fun. Suddenly, everything sounds like stars?

What it is, as far as we can tell: a tempo-locked granular delay. Eight delays sit on the note grid, from 1/1 down to 1/128. Turn SPLINTER and each tap breaks into grains — stuttering, shuffling, shrinking, reversing, piling up into a cloud — always locked to your tempo. At the far end, everything freezes into a frozen cloud of the same audio.

SPLINTER: one knob that goes from clean delays to stutter, shuffle, smaller grains, backwards grains, a dense cloud, and finally a one-bar loop
REVERSE mode cuts each measure at every division and plays each slice backwards, and FREEZE holds the cloud indefinitely
OCT UP and OCT DOWN add octave copies to every tap, and CLIMB makes the repeats climb or sink an octave at a time — the shimmer, without the crackle
RECIRC feeds each tap back into itself, with FILTER (low-pass or high-pass), DRIVE, and LO-FI inside the loop so every repeat is processed again
WIDTH spreads the taps across the stereo field, and DUCK lets the tail bloom in the gaps of the dry signal
LOCK turns the random splinter pattern into a repeating one-bar riff; ROLL picks a new pattern. EZ rolls a whole new sound
